Hall Memorabilia Presentation

These are images from the ceremony where descendents of Asaph Hall presented memorabilia to the USNO. The memorabilia included: President Lincoln's Commission to Hall as Professor of Mathematics, USN (1864), the Arago Medal of the Academie des Sciences (1893), and the Decoration of Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor (1896) which were originally awarded to Asaph Hall for his discovery of the Moons of Mars in August, 1877. The ceremony took place on May 1, 1998 at the dome of the 26-inch telescope at the Observatory.
