International Year of Astronomy (IYA 2009) Events

Special events hosted by the Observatory as part of the global celebration of the 400th anniversary of Galileo's first use of the telescope.

The U.S. Naval Observatory will be participating in a number of national and international programs associated with IYA 2009, the International Year of Astronomy, commemorating the 400th anniversary of Galileo's first use of a telescope to explore the universe.  Check this page regularly for IYA events that you can participate in!

U.S. Naval Observatory's Open House on April 4 was a huge success!  We had about 9000 visitors during the seven hours that we were open.  Thank you to all the hard-working Staff and Volunteers who made the event happen, and thank you to all of you who attended!
