Completed at the US Naval research laboratory in 1954, the 10 foot radio
telescope is equipped with a solid reflector capable of detecting extremely
short wavelengths of radiation from space. In 1961, this instrument measured
energy from Venus at a record short wavelength of 4.3 millimeters. The 10
foot radio telescope has also been used to study the composition of the
surface of the moon.
