This wing housed first the mural circle (August 1844 - latter part of 1845) then the 5.3-inch transit instrument (1845-1864), and finally the library. The west transit circle house (at extreme right) was built in 1868 and housed the 8.5-inch transit circle (later the 9-inch, in 1894).
