The 4.9-inch prime vertical transit instrument was used irregularly prior to November 1882, when observations with it were recommended for about a year. It underwent extensive repairs in 1892. Observations again started in July 1893 and ran until December 31, 1912, completing a metonic cycle. The Building was torn down in the early 1950s and the foundation was removed in the early 1960s.
