The 26 inch telescope has been modernized during the years since 1958 by utilizing the compact versatility of modern electric motors, clutches and synchro systems. The changes not only streamline the instrument, they also give easier access to the part of the sky directly overhead, they provide the addition to the telescope of more sophisticated auxiliary apparatus, and they save the obeserver's time and strength when he is aiming it. This last achievement, for projects requiring observations only a few minutes long for each of many stars, almost doubles the number of observations made on any one night. Photo taken in March 1961.
